Why WiFi Singal is Weak and How to improve?

Release Time:2020-11-04View:248

With the Internet development, the router has gradually become a "standard" device at home. Wireless network (WiFi) signal strength directly affects the speed of computer, mobile phone, and internet experience. So how to get the best wifi signal?

The common reasons of WiFi weak signal

The radio signal from the router is radiated outward from the antenna. So the wifi signal will decrease as the distance from the router increases. At the same time, some other factors, such as the structure of the house, the wall between router and device, the brand of the router, the TX power of the router, the aging of router, will also directly or indirectly affect the wifi signal.

How to improve the WiFi signal?

1. Router location

The home router should be placed in the middle of the house as far as possible. If it is a two-storeys building, it can be fixed on the wall or in the corner near the ceiling. Generally speaking, the signal is biased downwards, so consider setting it on the second floor.

2. Avoid signal blocking

Although the signal can penetrate the wall, the thicker the wall, the more the signal will fade. In addition, when the building is made of brick or concrete, the signal will be absorbed by the wall, and the signal through the wall will be greatly weakened. Similarly the flume can also significantly absorb signals, impeding transmission. In addition, materials like metal and mirrors reflect signals. The location behind televisions and in bathrooms aren't the best places to place router.

3. Keep away from interference

Microwave ovens are the enemy of wifi signals. Microwave ovens and routers radio with same frequency of 2.4Ghz (some routers have dual bands of 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz), so wifi signals will be interfered when using microwave ovens. Metal also absorbs signals, so keep your router away from metal items like refrigerators and stoves. In addition, because the wireless telephone and router radio frequency is the same, so wireless telephone could not be nearby the router.

4. Antenna angel

In most cases, it is best to set the antenna vertical Angle to 90°, so that the main coverage area of the signal will be spread throughout the room and the signal is best.

5. Change the channel

The router usually defaults to someone channel, which is probably the most congested. So, you can change the WiFi channel by the router's administration page to a less crowded channel.

6. Stop and restart the router

If the router works for a long time, it might overheat, age, and download too much. It cause the router system low performance. Power down the router and give it a rest can make the wifi signal faster and more stable. Some routers could support the system reboot periodically.
